TOPOGRAPHY OF MOUNTAINS, RIVERS, SEAS
Why in the world would anyone want to spend an entire semester studying the
geography of Palestine? Most people hate geography. Geography for the average
person tends to be dry and uninteresting. It's a science of cold, hard facts. Yet for the
Bible student who wants to become a able teacher of God's Word it is a must to
understand the locations where Jesus walked. It will help you to "flesh-out" a sermon
or Bible study with visual images that will draw your listeners into the Life of Christ.
To properly understand the life of Jesus we must have a good understanding of the
land in which Jesus lived. We will study the geography of the region, mountains,
rivers, cities, provinces, political rulers, etc. This study will help your preaching and
teaching come to life as you retrace and envision the very footsteps that Jesus
walked.
Our goal is to make you so familiar with the topography of Palestine that you could actually
walk it in your sleep. If you know it that well then each time your read a biblical reference
to a location, a mountain, a river, a sea, a town, a city, or a wilderness you will know exactly
where that event took place. Study these maps. Look up maps in the back of your Bible, in
a Bible Dictionary, or in magazines. The more you look the more you will see and understand.
Topographical Maps help you visualize the lay of the land, that is, the hills, mountains and
valleys. Get to know the land. Study the names of locations listed on the left side of this page. Test yourself by
drawing a map of Palestine from memory. Mark each city and town you can remember. Draw the rivers and
the seas, the mountains and valleys. Quiz yourself withour blank map that highlights locations without
names.
