The Oil of Anointing

The oil in the Old and New Testaments was often a symbol of something God wanted to affirm to his children. The oil itself had no medicinal value and no supernatural power. Anointing too was a symbolic act. Kings were anointed for their ministries. It was a sign of God’s blessing and hand being upon the one that was anointed. That same symbolism is true for those asking to be anointed for healing.
· Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD. (Leviticus 21:12)
· And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king
· Solomon. (1 Kings 1:39)
· The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; (Isaiah 61:1)

Oil Of Blessing
· But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil. (Psalms 92:10)
· Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (Psalms 23:5)

Oil of Refreshing
· My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. (Luke 7:46)
· And satest upon a stately bed, and a table prepared before it, whereupon thou hast set mine incense and mine oil. (Ezekiel 23:41)
· Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil. (Ezekiel 16:9)

Oil of Healing

· To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. (Isaiah 61:3)
