THE PROGRAM

The program begins with group SINGING of Bible songs involving one or more of the puppets to add to the excitement. Words for the songs should be made up on large poster board since the children are unchurched and will have to learn the songs. Guitars are helpful, taped music is also useful if needed. More often then not we began with just our voices. Musical volunteers were not long in coming.

The second part of the program is a STORY using large visual aids. The story should not take more than 5 minutes and requires a gifted story teller that can keep the children's attention. We have found that many time a continuing story, like the Amy Charmichael Story works well to keep them coming back to hear more.

The third part of the program is a visit from the PUPPET with some kind of puppet skit illustrating some Bible truth, usually the plan of salvation, using something to do with sin and forgiveness. We have found it best to use the up front person to interact with the puppet during this sketch to act as a bridge to the children. Otherwise when using two puppets the story is often lost as children fidget with each other rather than listening to the story unravel.

The fourth part of the program is teaching a Bible MEMORY VERSE. There are many creative ways to teach a Bible verse. We usually involve one or more of the puppets to help with the verse. It is more entertaining for the puppet to get the verse and meaning wrong than for a child to be embarrassed. The children are challenged to say the verse correctly to win a small prize (gum, candy, or CrackerJack type gifts)

Lastly we play a COMPETITIVE GAME of usually based on remembering or understanding some truth of the day's program. Participants are selected from the audience, if they can answer a simple question about the verse, story or puppet message they can compet in the game.

The program is closed with a song, and a moment of invitation to receive Jesus Christ as Savior or remain after to talk to one of the workers. If available it is always nice to be able to give out some kind of small prize for everyone who is there with a reminder that we will be back next week. If you already have a church in the community and a Sunday School or Super Saturday Kids Program it is ideal to use the Ark as a platform to invite them to church.
