30-Day Muslim Prayer Focus

The following are the identified and targeted Unreached People Groups "Within the Reach" of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. We encourage Alliance churches to join in partnerships with missionaries among them by adopting that group as their prayer focus until they come to Christ.

Day 22

Philippines
Tausug

The Tausug live mainly on the Island of Jolo in the southern portion or the Philippine Islands, but are also found in many other areas of the Philippines. They hold the highest status among Philippine Muslims. They have a strong solidarity aagainst "Christians" who dominate them and repress their aspirations to be a separate state. Though Islam is their religion they continue to practice folk medicine using charms, amulets, and "medicine men" to cure disease. Population: 500,000

Day 23

Philippines
Tboli

The T'boli are animistic with other religions mixed in with a pantheon of gods. They have been moderately responsive to the presentation of the Gospel. The new Testament has been available in their language since 1979. Missionaries are training national pastors to work among them. Population: 60,000

Day 24

Philippines
Yakan

The Yakan are an indigenous people concentrated in the interior of western Mindanao. They make up half of the Island's population. They consider themselves to be good Sunni Muslims though others do not agree since they combine pagan rituals with their Muslim practices. They are cordial to the Gospel presentation although not receptive of it. Pray for radio broadcasts and Bible Studies among them. Population: 150,000

Day 25

Philippines
B'laan

The B'laan of the Philippines live in the southern part of Cotabato. They are considered to be moderately responsive to the Gospel. No missionaries are presently assigned to this group. Population: 300,000

Day 26

Burkina Faso
Tourka

The Tourka are animists but also practice Islam or Roman Catholicism. Animism is the practice of appeasing spirits by use of amulets, magic, and fetishes. Nearly every courtyard manifests evidence of blood sacrifices with feathers, skulls, and bones hanging from the mud-brick buildings. The Tourka have been very responsive to the Gospel. There is no national pastor or missionary that can speak Tourka, so services are conducted in the Jula language. Population: 40,000

Day 27

Burkina Faso
Komono

The Komono tribe are known also as Kumwenu and speak a language called Komono, although they are bilingual and speak the Jula language as well. They are mainly animists, practicing shamanism, white and black magic, fetishism, and offer sacrifices to appease the spirits. About 25% of the population are Muslim. There are no Scriptures in their language. The Jesus film is available to them and has been effective in reaching them. Population: 10,150

Day 28

Cote d'Ivoire
Agni

The Agni are dispersed throughout the southeastern edge of Burkina Faso. They are a deeply animistic people with strong Muslim, and some Catholic influences. They are sycretistic and tend to mix religions. Near the CMA there is a formal school for training female witch doctors (sorceresses) whose stated goal is to infiltrate and neutralize all Christian influence in the region. There are just a handful of Christians (45) among them. Population: 254,000
