Prayer Profile:
The Nounouma of Burkina Faso

The Nounouma (Nunuma) tribe of Burkina Faso occupy an area of approximately 2,415 square kilometers. The language they speak is called Nuni or Nounouma which is a Leo dialect.

The main religions of this people group are Animism 59%, Islam 25% and Roman Catholicism 15%. There are currently no vernacular Scriptures available to these people, but translation of the New Testament by SIL is in progress.

Although no Alliance missionaries are currently assigned to work among this UPG, the national church has begun surveys and studies to plan an outreach strategy. It is planned to establish a strong church in the town of Tcheriba which then will become a base to launch out and witness to other towns. Tcheriba is the largest town and government center for the Nounouma area. The town itself is actually about 2/3 Dafing and 1/3 Nounouma. Tigan, the next largest Nounouma town is only 9 Kilometers from Tcheriba and is about 99% Nounouma. Hopefully, it will be reached through the witness of the people from Tcheriba.
