Prayer Profile: The Mano people of Guinea are a small tribal group in the Southeastern corner of the forest region. They live in proximity to the Kpele one of three large animistic people groups in the forest region of Guinea that the CMA has been working with from its entrance into the country. These people resisted the islamization of the nation in the 18th and 19th century and clung to their animistic beliefs. The Kpele were reached with the gospel by the CMA in 1934. As the church began to grow and national pastors and evangelists became trained in the Word of God these evangelists began to reach out to neighboring tribes that are similar in outlook and belief. The Lola district is where the majority of the Mano live. In the late 1980's one convert from the Mano people came to the Telekoro Bible Institute to be trained for ministry. About this same time the war in Liberia broke out and many Mano came across the border into Guinea as refugees. Some of these Mano were already believers. In February, 1991 an outdoor evangelism service was held in Balemou a Mano village and over 90 people responded to the invitation. A church grew up in that village and sent the second Mano candidate to Telekoro in 1994. The strategy to reach this people group includes encouraging the already established churches in the Nzerekore district to evangelize and plant new churches in the Lola district among the Mano. The use of outdoor preaching and evangelism and praying for the sick is effective in reaching these animistic people. There are approximately only 250 Mano Christians. Pray that God will fill with his Spirit the national pastors who are working to plant churches among their people. |
